Member Spotlight: Alecia Boone
We are very excited to feature Alecia Boone as our Member Spotlight this month. Alecia has participated in our OCR and Run Club groups for many years, and you can also find her at an afternoon team training class. We asked Alecia to tell us a little about herself before coming to Forward Fitness and this is what she shared, “I grew up in South County and was very much a tomboy. I played softball, basketball and soccer when I was younger but once in high school I focused on basketball and track and field. Post-college I got into kickboxing for a short time with a few half marathons sprinkled in over the years.”
Alecia told us this about why health and fitness were important to her “Health/fitness is important to me to not only to keep my body in shape, but my mind as well. Running has always been what calms me down after a bad day.”
We love finding out how our members found Forward Fitness, and this is how Alecia found us, “In 2021 I was looking for a new gym after recently moving back to St. Louis from out of state. It had been years since I was part of an athletic team, so OCR is what first attracted me to Forward Fitness. After a couple practices, I was hooked!”
We know that everyone is faced with challenges in their fitness journey. Alecia shared this about overcoming challenges, “I think getting older is one of the hardest challenges. How your metabolism changes and how injuries become more and more common is a real struggle. At 38 years old, I can’t just get off the couch and run 5 miles anymore. It takes consistency and intentionality.”
It is obvious that lifetime fitness is important to Alecia. She shared this about how she makes fitness a priority in her life. “I think when you grow up with fitness as part of your everyday life, it becomes second nature. There are times when it might take a back burner to other things I have going on, but if I go too long without exercise my mental and physical health will start to suffer.”
It is always fun to find out what accomplishments our members are most proud of, Alecia shared some of her OCR victories. “I ran two races with the OCR team… The sprint (5k) and super (10K). Would still like to get that trifecta!”
Alecia would give this advice to someone thinking about starting a fitness routine, “Do it. Even if it’s just a quick 10 minutes, there are so many mental and physical benefits.”
She also has a request that I’m sure some of our members can help her out with, “I am looking for a destination race with some beautiful scenery. If you’ve traveled for half marathons and have gone somewhere amazing, let me know!”
Thank you, Alecia, for being a part of our Fit Fam and for sharing a little more about yourself with our members.
