At Forward Fitness we know you want to be the best version of yourself. The problem is going at it alone can be really intimidating to reach your personal health and fitness goals.

We understand everyone is starting off at a different phase of their fitness journey, which is why we have a team of coaches with expertise in mobility, breathing, kettlebells, nutrition, and more to meet you where you are at.

Develop your purpose

We believe this is key to success not only in the gym, but in life. When you have something bigger than yourself to work towards we will work so much harder and it won’t feel as much like work. Having a purpose and constantly developing it will make it easier to stay committed when you don’t feel like it.

If you’ve never thought about this, that’s okay. Take a moment to think about it. Don’t worry if you’re not 100% sure about it. Choose something to start with and develop or change it as you grow.

Be positively present

We believe that when you are fully present you get so much more out of life. When you are focused on the present you are not worried about the past or future. When you come into a workout you get so much more out of it when you are positively present. You can actually get more results from the exact same workout when you show up and are positively present. You forget about the stress of life and have an hour to focus on you and your goals. You may come in stressed, upset, or glum, but you can leave feeling empowered, positive, and more relaxed.

We specifically chose to include positively because a positive mindset can take you so much farther in life. Our minds are like a muscle, you must “work it out” consistently to strengthen the muscle create a positive mindset. As Shawn Anchor talks about in his book, The Happiness Advantage, “Happiness is not about lying to ourselves, or turning a blind eye to the negative, but about adjusting our brains so we see the ways to rise above our circumstances. 

Be “We” not “Me”

You can accomplish so much more together than by yourself. At Forward Fitness you don’t have to do it alone. Not only do you have a team of awesome coaches here to support you, you have a whole #ForwardFam.

One of the many things we love about our members is how welcoming and supportive they are. It can be intimidating to walk into a gym for the first time, but seeing smiling faces can make it a little easier. We are #MaplewoodStrong! 

Adventure racer and president of World OCR, Ian Adamson says, “A good team is faster than its weakest link.” We like to take this one step farther. A good team is better than it’s strongest link. When everyone brings their best it allows everyone’s best to be better.

Functional Movement System

One way Forward Fitness will help you reach your goal is through the Functional Movement System screen. A huge part of success is developing a training program that is right for your body. This movement screen lets us know what areas we can safely challenge you in and if there are any areas we want to build a more solid foundation before just throwing weight at you. This allows us to design a program specific to each person and their goals. This, in addition to paying attention to good form, allows us to prevent injury and see results faster.

As Gray Cook, one of the creators of the FMS, has said many times, “Move Well, Then Move Often!”

Our Philosophy

We have all started a new diet or training program. For a few weeks it seems that we really have our plan down and then we start to resort back to our old habits. At Forward Fitness we build programs around the constant thought of moving forward with our lives. We don’t have diets, instead we look to build healthy habits. We may take steps back every now and then, but we will ultimately keep moving forward.

A huge part of Forward Fitness is helping you make health and fitness a part of your lifestyle. Whether you choose semi-private training or team training we help you develop the tools to achieve your goals. Want to do a push up? Run a marathon? Set personal records? Power lift? Do an Obstacle Course Race? Move better? Or just feel better? We are here for you!

Nutrition Coaching

Good nutrition is also crucial to getting results. That is why we have a registered dietitian on staff. Don’t worry! She is not here to tell you what you can’t eat. She is here to help you assess your motivation to make changes and set achievable goals that you can maintain. She likes to focus on rituals you can add to your life to help you reach your goal, verses focusing on restriction. You will never hear her say you can’t eat X food for the rest of your life. Forming healthy habits doesn’t have to feel like you are giving up everything you love. It can feel doable, positive, and empowering!
