Taking Control of Stress

Stress impacts every one of us. You may even feel like the women in the photo above. It can leave us feeling tired, defeated, ambivalent, and so much more. No matter how much stress you are under there are ways to take control of your stress.

Join Coach Suzanne for a 4-session program where we will explore the different areas of stress: physical, mental, emotional, environmental, social, and existential. You will learn how stress can impact our body including our hormones. We will discuss how those different areas of stress overlap and what we can to do to help! We will meet for an hour on Thursdays. Time will be divided into a 30-minute talk followed by a 30-minute all levels yoga nidra session led by Forward Fitness member and yogi, Alicia Delaney.

If you have not heard of yoga nidra, it is a unique approach to meditation that’s been heavily scientifically studied. PET scans of the brain during practice show that the practitioners experience long periods of alpha brainwave activity, said to be the purest form of relaxation. The benefits of extending our stay in alpha wave state include reduced anxiety, stronger sense of confidence, a resetting of circadian rhythms and hormone output, and deeper experiences of rest. Yoga nidra is one of the only styles of meditation endorsed by the U.S. Army Surgeon General because of its applications for soothing the nervous system. As we make our way through fall into winter, changing schedules, the holiday rush, lack of sunlight, and colder temperatures can all wreak havoc on our cycles and rhythms. Especially after the Daylight Savings time change, a practice like this can be a real boon to keep you feeling calm and clear. All parts of this meditation will be guided, so it’s a perfect match for beginners and seasoned practitioners alike.

We are capping registration at 15 people. It is an investment of $74.99.
