Chiropractic Care During Pregnancy
There is a lot going on in the body during pregnancy. As a recent mom herself, Dr. Jessica Battocletti of Clayton Chiropractic explains a little more about that and how chiropractic care can help during pregnancy.
Here’s what she has to say:
Pregnancy is an exciting time in your life and it should be a comfortable amazing experience. Your body is going through a lot of changes and chiropractic care is proven safe and effective for pregnant women. With proper care, physical activity can be safe and healthy throughout your entire pregnancy.
Common conditions we treat during pregnancy:
- Hip pain
- Low back pain
- Sciatica
- Rib issues
- Round ligament pain
- Neck pain
- Pubic symphysis dysfunction
- Breech presentation
- Headaches
As your body prepares to develop and nurture your child, many physical and hormonal changes can result in a spinal or pelvic misalignment. Relaxin is the hormone responsible for relaxing your pelvic ligaments and pubic symphysis during pregnancy. While it prepares your pelvis for birth, it also makes other joints hypermobile and susceptible to injury.
Treatment options:
- Chiropractic Adjustments
- Deep Muscle work like ART/PNF/Graston
- Assisted Stretching
- Rolling Massage Table
- Kinesiology Taping
- Pregnancy table – which allows you to comfortably lay face down with your pelvis supported and the abdominal piece is lowered allowing space for your growing belly
Labor and delivery is very physical and can lead to postpartum aches and pains. While your body is getting used to holding and carrying your new baby, upper back and neck pain is common. This is especially evident in women that breastfeed. Treatment is also important postpartum due to the residual laxity in your spinal and pelvic ligaments.
Many new moms also seek treatment for their newborn. Common conditions we help are colic, troubles latching, trouble sleeping, infrequent bowel movements, torticollis, flat or misshapen heads and fussiness.
